Little Scholar Pre-school and Childcare centre is a partnership between Okanagan College and YMCA-YWCA and it features a newly constructed 3000 sq ft, 53 space childcare facility offering four childcare programs for children ages 8 weeks to 6 years.  Programs include 10 spaces for Infant/Toddlers, 23 spaces for 3-5 year-old Group Childcare, and 10 Morning Preschool Program spaces.  The Centre will utilize YMCA Playing to Learn™ where play is used to build a dynamic learning environment.  The Centre will provide care for the children of Okanagan College employees and students as well as for the general public. 

Reporting directly to the Childcare Director for the YMCA-YWCA of the Central Okanagan, the Early Childhood Educators will assist in the delivery of high quality programs. 

Major Responsibilities and Abilities:

· To read, understand and follow all Provincial and YMCA requirements and standards.

- To assist with the planning and implementing of a consistent child centred program in accordance with YMCA standards.
- To maintain a neat, orderly, and clean environment, including all activity areas and washrooms.                    
- To ensure that all safety and supervision standards are implemented and maintained according to licensing and YMCA requirements.
- To ensure the delivery of high quality programs and age appropriate care that meet best practices whereby enhancing children’s development and learning.

To maintain confidentiality of all information related to the YMCA-YWCA, the centre, the children and their families, staff and the community.

To implement the delivery of the YMCA Playing to Learn curriculum as set by YMCA Canada and other association initiatives.

The WCDC Supervisor is responsible for the management of the day to day operation of the Westbank Childhood Development Centre; Overseeing the development and delivery of the Daycare and Aboriginal Head Start Program and ensuring the development and safety of children in accordance with the provincial licensing, policies and procedures and the Westbank First Nation Education Strategic Plan. 

· Prepares the WCDC annual budget and oversees yearly expenditures including approving purchases within established budget limits
· Develop yearly statistics of registered children to forecast class enrolment and staffing
· Prepares and submits subsidy forms as required by the Province and parent invoices and receipts of daycare fees and payments
· Maintains current and accurate student records: registration, medical history, immunization status, permission forms, referrals, and all other essential information
· Keeps current with early childhood development trends, write/submit proposals, reports and the provision of policies and procedure
· Supervises staff by assigning/directing work, conducting employee evaluations, staff training and development, staff work/implementation plans, disciplinary/corrective actions, hiring/termination recommendations
· Supports the Aboriginal Head Start program that reflects the six program components and establish an Okanagan cultural environment
· Communicates with families on program changes, new information, incident reports, closures, events, field trips through correspondence and distribution of monthly calendars/newsletter
· Coordinates building and playground repairs with Property Management
· Meets with Licensing, fire inspection and health inspections, and implement provisions as required
· Participates in ongoing meetings with the Education Services Manager and attends Community Services Staff meetings when available
· Establishes linkages with other Westbank First Nation programs/services and outside agencies to create and support programs that initiate early intervention strategies
· Supervises the day to day administration, such as answering calls, ordering supplies, staff attendance, and staff breaks, etc

Qualifications

·         Early Childhood Education Certificate and licensed to teach
·         Prefer Human Services Education with experience in Early Childhood Education
·         Minimum 3-5 years combined experience in one or more of the following: working with infants, children and families, and community development.
·         Minimum 3 years Management experience/team leadership skills
·         Experience in budgeting, proposal writing, work plans and strategic planning
·         Excellent oral and written communication skills, interpersonal/personal management skills
·         Computer skills in Microsoft (outlook, word, Excel) ; Database management
·         Aboriginal descent preferred
·         Ability to research information on current child development trends, grants, legislations, and policies etc
·         Knowledge of provincial daycare policies and guidelines
·         Knowledge of fire and health inspection
·         Financial management and administrative skills
·         Ability to maintain confidential information
·         Conflict resolution skills, team building, and supervisory skills
·         Analytical and problem solving, decision making, and time management skills
·         Ability to work as a team and with minimum supervision
·         Knowledge of the WFN community

·         Possess cultural awareness and sensitivity

The Westside Parent Participation Preschool (WPPP), a leader in play-based learning serving the West Kelowna community for 38 years, has an opening for the position of Teacher Supervisor. The preschool offers an excellent working environment supported by a highly dedicated membership of parents. WPPP is a licensed preschool operating under Interior Health, a registered charitable non-profit organization and a member of the Council of Parent Participation Preschools in BC.

The successful applicant will be a highly organized self-starter, fully qualified and registered with Community Care Facilities. Qualifications include ECE Diploma or certification, an ability to communicate effectively with parents and children, and a willingness to work closely with the Preschool’s parent executive. Prior experience in a preschool classroom is an asset. The job will commence in September 2012 with possible training as early as May 2011. Please note that this is a part time position. Our current schedule includes Monday Wednesday and Friday mornings.
