Foodsafe is a food safety course targeted for food handlers including child care providers and volunteers. It explains how food bourne illness is caused and most importantly, how food bourne illness can be prevented. Making Connections
Once a week parents and children gather together for a fun learning experience which includes a half hour music class for 0-5 year olds and their parent(s) followed by a parent only discussion group to be enjoyed while children are supervised in an adjoining room. Although the venue is donated by First United Church, the program is not religious based. An interactive music program is led by a certified Early Childhood Music Specialists. Parents and children share a special bonding time together through fingerplays, rhymes, songs, and playing instruments. Through music, children: increase gross and fine motor skills, enhance speech and vocabulary, experience a sense of belonging, learn to contribute to a group and listen to others, build confidence in themselves. Childminding after music class includes supervised playtime, a snack, story time, and a craft. Parent group discussions are on a variety of topics such as parenting challenges and include videos and discussions facilitated by members of the group. Guest speakers are also brought in such as community nutritionist on infant and toddler nutrition, public health nurse on child health related topics, ICBC child car seat safety, dental hygiene for young children, etc...

Nobody's Perfect
The program is designed to meet the needs of parents with limited income, limited education or are socially, culturally, geographically isolated. The program includes: learning how to understand your child better, information on children's health, safety and behavior, coping with stress, sharing ideas, tips and experiences and how to take a break in your busy day. St. John Ambulance - Emergency First Aid - Child Care
This 8 hour National Cirtification course is approved for Child Care and Day Care Workers. The content of this course is oriented to performing First Aid on newborn infants to children eight years of age. There is approximately 3 hours homework to complete prior to this course. There is an ongoing skills, evaluation and a multiple choice test at the end of the course. Upon sucessful completion, candidates will be issued a National St. John Ambulance Emergency First Aid-Child Care Certificate valid for 3 years. Cost is $79.00 + gst (2006)
